Owies Balm · Gentle Herbal First Aid for the Whole Family

Plantain · Calendula · Yarrow · Lavender · Zinc

For every scraped knee, mystery rash, bug bite, and bedtime “it really hurts” that childhood delivers without warning.

Owies Balm is a gentle herbal first-aid balm crafted for the everyday bumps, scrapes, bites and skin irritations that come with family life — made with time-honoured botanicals that have been soothing skin for centuries, blended into a balm soft enough for the most delicate little skin and effective enough that you’ll reach for it yourself.

One for the bathroom. One for the handbag. One for the nappy bag. You’ll want it everywhere.

WHAT’S INSIDE

Plantain
Not the banana — the humble garden herb that herbalists have reached for first for cuts, stings and inflamed skin for centuries. Deeply soothing and drawing, plantain calms irritated tissue and supports the skin’s natural healing process beautifully.

Calendula
The great skin healer. Anti-inflammatory, gentle and deeply nourishing, calendula is one of the most trusted herbs in children’s skin care — soothing rashes, supporting repair and keeping sensitive skin calm and protected.

Yarrow
Ancient wound healer. Yarrow’s astringent and antimicrobial properties make it a natural first responder for scrapes, grazes and minor cuts — supporting tissue recovery and helping keep minor wounds clean and settled.

Lavender Essential Oil
Gently antimicrobial and deeply calming — for the skin and for whoever is crying about the scrape. Lavender promotes wound healing, soothes insect bites and brings a comforting familiarity to every application.

Zinc
A gentle protective layer over healing skin. Zinc is a trusted ingredient in nappy rash creams and wound care for good reason — it supports the skin barrier, reduces irritation and helps keep tender areas protected while they heal.

Beeswax
The natural base that holds it all together — creating a breathable protective layer that locks in the herbal goodness without suffocating the skin.

Detailed Product Information

Healing Properties

Owies Balm is a three-herb infused balm built on some of the most trusted wound-healing and skin-soothing botanicals in traditional plant medicine.

Plantain brings deeply calming and drawing action to irritated, inflamed or broken skin — one of the first herbs herbalists reach for in acute skin care.

Calendula is profoundly anti-inflammatory and vulnerary, supporting the repair of damaged skin while keeping sensitive tissue calm and protected — making it a cornerstone of natural children’s skin care. Yarrow contributes astringent and antimicrobial properties, supporting tissue recovery and helping keep minor wounds clean and settled.

Lavender essential oil adds gentle antimicrobial action and promotes wound healing alongside its well-known calming effect. Zinc creates a protective barrier layer over healing skin, reducing irritation and supporting the skin barrier — particularly valuable for nappy rash and broken skin.

The whole blend is carried in organic grapeseed oil and set in beeswax, creating a breathable, nourishing balm that melts easily into skin without blocking pores.

Ask the Herbalist

Is it safe for newborns?
Yes — all ingredients are gentle enough for newborn skin. It works beautifully as a nappy rash balm from birth. If your baby has particularly reactive skin, do a small patch test on the inner arm first.

Can I use it on nappy rash?
Absolutely — this is one of its most loved uses. Apply a generous layer at every nappy change. The zinc creates a protective barrier while calendula and plantain soothe and support healing of irritated skin.

Can I use it on eczema?
Many families find Owies Balm deeply soothing for eczema flares — calendula and plantain are both well regarded for reactive, sensitive skin. It won’t cure eczema but it can offer meaningful relief and barrier support during flares. If your child has severe or infected eczema please consult your healthcare provider.

Does it work on insect bites and stings?

Yes — apply directly to the bite or sting for immediate soothing relief. Plantain in particular has a long tradition of use for drawing out insect venom and calming the itch and inflammation of bites.

Can adults use it too?
Completely — it works beautifully on dry cuticles, cracked heels, chapped lips, minor cuts and dry patches. Many mamas keep one in their handbag for their own skin as much as for the kids.

How long does one tin last?
A little goes a long way — a 30g tin used daily for nappy rash will last approximately 4–6 weeks. For occasional use it will last considerably longer.

Is it safe to use near the mouth?
The ingredients are all natural but this balm is not formulated for internal use. For chapped lips or skin very close to the mouth, apply carefully and keep away from the inside of the mouth.
