Oats: Oats are a lactation-friendly superfood, known for enhancing milk supply and providing essential nutrients like iron. With dietary fiber aiding digestion, oats offer postpartum comfort and energy oats are a nourishing choice for lactating mothers, supporting overall well-being.

Moringa: Moringa is a valuable ally for breastfeeding mothers, offering a nutrient-rich profile with essential vitamins and minerals for postpartum recovery. Known for its lactogenic properties, moringa may enhance breast milk production. Its antioxidants contribute to overall health, aiding postpartum healing. Additionally, moringa's anti-inflammatory qualities can alleviate discomfort.

Cinnamon: In Ayurveda, cinnamon is valued for its warming properties and is believed to balance the Vata and Kapha doshas. It is considered a digestive aid, enhancing nutrient absorption. Additionally, its sweet taste is thought to nourish breast milk, making it a beneficial spice for breastfeeding mothers, promoting digestive health and overall well-being in alignment with Ayurvedic principles.

Flax: With its high fibre content promoting healthy digestion, preventing and easing constipation, a common concern during the postpartum period. Flax is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and they also provide antioxidants and fibre for overall health. Additionally, flaxseeds contain phytoestrogens, potentially supporting hormonal balance.

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 160degC and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  • Empty premix into a bowl, add 3 tbsp of water and 1/2c of melted coconut oil (or butter/ghee if you wish), mix til combined. Sit for 5 minutes to let the flax take hold.
  • Roll into 12 balls in your hands and press down onto baking tray to flatten into a cookie shape. If you need to add an extra tbsp of coconut oil to keep the cookies sticking together, now is the time.
  • Bake in oven for 10-12  minutes. Until the edges and bottoms are golden, and tops are slightly matt. Do not overcook. They will harden when cooled.
  • Try to leave on tray to cool, although many cookies have been eaten straight out of the oven and off the tray. They are just as delightful warm and gooey as hard and crunchy.
  • Enjoy nursing your baby, whilst nourishing your body.

TOP TIP: While cookies are still warm out of the oven, grab a glass and place over the cookie and circle around the hot cookie to form the perfect cookie shape.

Ask the Herbalist

Q: Are these safe for the whole family?

A: Yes! Our Titscuits are a nourishing snack suitable for the whole family. Great for school and work lunchboxes, and I can confirm, no boobies will be grown much to my husband's surprise (it took him a good year to try my lactation cookies because he was adamant he would start lactating if he did).

Q: Are these gluten free?

A: All ingredients in our titscuit lactation cookie mix are naturally gluten free, but unfortunately oats are processed normally in a factory with other grains meaning that there can be cross contamination. When we started Mother Moon we used certified gluten free oats in our mix, but to keep costs as affordable as quality permits and making our product more accessible to mothers we chose to use normal oats now. Personally I have a gluten intolerance and can stomach organic oats fine with no discomfort, but every body is different. If there is a demand, I am more than happy to produce a certified GF premix for coeliacs at an additional cost. Send me an email :)

Q: How many biscuits a day?

A: As many as you want. You shouldn't be counting calories or tracking meals when you are healing from pregnancy, birth and feeding a new life form. it's just not important. What is important though for postpartum is you eating enough. Enough high quality, nutrient dense foods and liquids. Eat the cookie!
