So many mothers tell me they are exhausted.
Then I ask what they’ve eaten.
Coffee.
Toast.
A banana.
A few crackers.
Half a child’s sandwich.
Maybe pasta at night.
And honestly, I get it.
Motherhood does not always leave much space for beautiful balanced meals.
But protein matters.
Especially for mothers.
Protein helps rebuild tissues after birth.
It supports blood sugar.
It helps mood feel more stable.
It supports hormones.
It helps with milk production.
It keeps you fuller for longer.
It gives the body actual building blocks.
Without enough protein, many mothers feel like they are chasing energy all day.
Coffee.
Sugar.
More coffee.
A snack.
A crash.
Irritability.
Another snack.
It becomes a blood sugar rollercoaster, and your nervous system feels every dip.
This does not mean you need to eat perfectly.
It means you need easy anchors.
Eggs.
Greek yoghurt.
Lentil soup.
Bone broth.
Chicken.
Tuna patties.
Nut butter.
Protein balls.
Chia pudding.
Leftover dinner for breakfast.
A smoothie with protein added.
Oats cooked with collagen or seeds.
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is to stop leaving yourself until last.
A mother cannot run on crumbs.
And yet so many do.
Start small.
Add protein to breakfast.
Before the coffee if you can.
Your body will thank you.
Your mood may thank you.
Your children may thank you too.
Because a fed mother is a steadier mother.
